Still Life - pumpkin

This is an 8"x8" oil painting of a small pumpkin or maybe it's called a pumpkin squash. I plan to do small still life paintings in oil or acrylic. I was inspired by the "painting-a-day" guys. I don't have time to do one every day, but maybe every-once-in-a-while. There are so many different styles of drawing and painting I want to do that's it's hard for me to stick with just one for a long period of time.

Illustration Friday - Mask

I was kind of toying with the idea of make-up as a mask. I originally planned to do a goth girl in a realistic style, in black pencil but came up with this instead.

Fashion Portrait

This was intended to be a fashion style drawing although it looks a bit like a comic book style drawing.
I bought a book full of fashion illustrations and I was really inspired by the colors, the boldness and creativity of the artists.
I had a fashion illustration class in college and really enjoyed it even though it was not easy and it was frustrating at times. I would like to take a crack at it again. Maybe I'll come up with some better stuff without the pressures of being in a classroom setting.

Illustration Friday - Clear

"Clear, Clear. I can hear you loud and clear from up here."
I decided to do something more whimsical than what I usually do. I've been reading a lot of Dr. Seuss to my son lately, so it has influenced me somewhat on this one.

Illustration Friday - Ghost

This is a ghost of a girl who sees her body on the bed and realizes that she is dead.

Illustration Friday - Smitten (color)

Okay, so here is last week's IF topic in color, although I'm not sure if it makes much of a difference.

Illustration Friday - Smitten

I caught a cold this week so I didn't have time to paint this.

This one is about how pretty girls are sometimes smitten with guys who aren't so good-looking.

Illustration Friday - Trouble

I wasn't going to submit anything this week because I wanted to work on some Christmas cards for my online shops, but I just wasn't in the mood. That felt more like work. The Illustration Friday stuff is more fun, so today I opted to work on this week's topic and this is what I came up with. Sometimes life brings you trouble when you just want to relax and have fun.

Angelina Jolie

This is a caricature I did of Angelina Jolie. It was harder to do than I thought because I couldn't find any flaws to emphasize. It's probably best to try and stay away from caricaturing pretty people. I'm thinking of painting this one when I have time.

Illustration Friday - Quiet

Floating along in the ocean on vacation with water in your ears is nice and quiet.

Illustration Friday - Phobia vers. 2

A friend of mine in college had a bird phobia, so I decided to do this one. I'm trying out different styles, so this looks different from the other one I submitted this week. I'd like to be more bold with the medium and less afraid to make mistakes. My artwork tends to look too careful. I struggle with the backgrounds. They're killing me!

Illustration Friday - Phobia

Arachniphobia! I can relate. At first I wanted to make the spider really cute, but then I decided to make the spider really small to emphasize the absurdity of it.

Obon Dancer

This is done in watercolor of a girl dancing at an obon festival. I don't know if young girls wear red kimonos, but I didn't think about it until after I already painted it red. I hope it is not inappropriate.

Illustration Friday - Change

So, this is my take on change. The metamorphosis of the butterfly and, well, pocket change. That's my 2 cents worth. ;o)

Illustration Friday - Farm

My husband had a couple of good ideas for this one and I had one, too, but they were too complicated to be done in time to be posted so I came up with this one. I didn't have much time this week to work on this and I think it is not quite finished, but the deadline is tomorrow and so here it is.

Jennifer Garner

Jennifer Garner is a pretty lady, but this is sometimes how I see her. I just had to draw those teeth and cheeks.

Jay Leno

I have been admiring caricature art for some time and decided to try it out. I don't know if there is much money in it, but it's fun.

Safe

This is my second Illustration Friday submission. The subject is Safe. My attempts to go bold and creative have not worked for me so I guess "Safe" is an appropriate subject for this piece.

This girl is resting between dances at a Japanese Obon festival.

This was done in brown chalk.

"Sorry, gotta run."

This is my first attempt at participating in Illustration Friday. The topic is Run.

Small Keed Time - Kimberly Robello

I'm trying to get myself to do more artwork, so I started this blog to motivate me to post my drawings and paintings regularly.
