Illustration Friday - Phobia vers. 2

A friend of mine in college had a bird phobia, so I decided to do this one. I'm trying out different styles, so this looks different from the other one I submitted this week. I'd like to be more bold with the medium and less afraid to make mistakes. My artwork tends to look too careful. I struggle with the backgrounds. They're killing me!

I think you're being way too hard on yourself! I love the soft quality of the boy constrasted against the moody background.

hi kimberly,
your illo is cute! i agree that getting bold with medium needs courage. but it worth the price..i like it when the piece have rich colours/layers. if you make mistakes, just cover it with another color which has the same tone. just brush and brush.. we only have to be careful when the brush near the lines.. once we get quite far from it, then just freely move our brush. but that's me.. i'm a newbie too..hehe.

I don't have bird phobia, but like you, I too am too careful and afraid to make mistakes with my artwork... I wonder what is the term for that phobia!! :)

I struggle with backgrounds...but most times either like to make them very busy or white.

Great image!
