Girl with Teddy Bear Preliminary Sketch

I'm planning on selling prints sometime in 2008 and this is an idea I was sketching out that I'm probably going to turn into a painting that I will sell prints of.

Dancing (in progress)

This is a partial of a painting in progress that I've been working on. I thought I would post it since I haven't been posting much lately.

Faces in sketchbook

My mom gave me some of my old sketchbooks from over 10 years ago. This is a page in one of the sketchbooks. It's interesting to look back at old drawings. I posted some on my flickr site. I should start writing more text on the pages. I did that from time to time, but it was more about stuff that I wanted to remember, like quotes from people, rather than what was happening in my life and around the world at the time. That would be more interesting to look back on than just drawings. I like when other people add text to their drawings. Some have really funny things to say!

Jack Skellington on Pumpkin

My son likes Jack, so I painted this for him on a mini pumpkin for Halloween.

Butterflies & Lanterns in progress

I've been working on this on and off for about 2 weeks. It's taking me a lot longer than I hoped, but I like the way it's coming along.

Untitled in progress

This is something I started working on the other day by just applying paint on board and seeing what came of it. I plan on adding one small thing, but if I don't like it, this may evolve into something completely different.

Trick or Treat, Tweet, Tweet, Tweet

Here is the finished product. I had a lot of fun doing this although it took me longer than I expected it would.

Chicks & Ghosts in progress

I decided to do something different and started this acrylic painting on illustration board. This was inspired by the artist Alex Noriega and is not yet done.

Little Witch preliminary sketch

Since Halloween is coming up, I decided to do a little witch painting. This is the preliminary sketch for it.

In Progress - Girl with Blue Butterfly

Here is another work in progress. I haven't had much time to do anything for Illustration Friday, so this blog has been a been a bit inactive, so I thought I'd post some of the things I've been working on. I was sort of thinking of a modern day Snow White looking character, so this is what I came up with.

Works in progress with Pixie

Here are a couple of works in progress on my desk with my Pixie at the top. I'm working on painting a circus girl with a pink background. The one at the bottom is my Girl From Ipanema. I've been listening to that song a lot lately, so it was in my head while I was drawing and painting this.

Side views of Pixie

These are side views of my Pixie that I just finished and that is up for sale on my painting blog

Circus Girl with Lollipop

This is another sketch for an idea I was trying to develop for a 4"x4" painting. I couldn't get the lollipop to fit in the painting, so I left it out. Maybe I'll do another one on a bigger canvas because I like the lollipop.

This is a preliminary sketch for a painting that I'm doing on 4"x4" canvas. I always tend to like the drawings of my first ideas best.

Illustration Friday - Visitors

It was love at first sight and the moment of eye contact was not disturbed by the visitors.

Illustration Friday - Emergency

The idea for this was an "out of the frying pan into the fire" type of emergency.
I went to the San Diego Comic Con and bought a lot of art books and artist's sketchbooks. I was very inspired and discovered great bookstores for art books which are Stuart Ng books and Bud Plant. It was very chaotic and crowded, but fun overall.

IF - Camouflage

I had a hard time trying to think of something to do for this week's challenge and I didn't want to do the standard camouflage colors and pattern, but last night this idea came to me. I wanted to do something with dots or a circular pattern so this is what I came up with.

IF - Suit

For "Suit" I decided to go for the playing card meaning. The Queen of Hearts has a nice meaning, so I decided to do that.

Illustration Friday - Your Paradise

This girl is in her own little paradise enjoying the songs of the birds on a beautiful, sunny day. This was inspired by Bob Marley's song, "Three Little Birds" which is one of my favorite songs.

"Don't worry bout a thing,
'Cause every little thing is gonna be all right.
Singin': "Don't worry about a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right!
Rise up this mornin',
Smiled with the risin' sun,
Three little birds
Sit by my doorstep
Singin' sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Sayin', ("This is my message to you-ou-ou")

Illustration Friday - Cars

A couple of weeks ago, a friend told me what a chibi was, so I decided to do a chibi for this week's topic. It might have looked better if I colored it in Photoshop, but I like painting, so I ended up painting it in watercolor and cel paint.

Illustration Friday - Citrus

This is the first time I have posted to IF in a while. I've been really busy, but I hope to be able to keep posting.
My entry for citrus includes falling lemons or it's raining lemondrops for someone who loves lemons. The background is green to represent the color of limes. The character was supposed to be a girl, but I left out the braids I was going to put in so that the character could be a boy or girl.

Simone Simon - Color

I posted the preliminary drawing of Simone Simon a while ago, but I have since colored it with watercolor. I hope you like it.

Earthen Hair

I like these images of what could be organic like trees, flowers, etc. but could be lollipops or lamps, too. I want to incorporate these images into other pieces of artwork.

Sketch for portrait contest

This is a thumbnail sketch I did as I was trying to come up with ideas for a portrait contest. I did it really quick and it turned out looking fresher than the other thumbnails I did that I sort of noodled at for too long. I was going for an expression that told you something about the person and I tend to like this far away, deep in thought look.

Illustration Friday - Red

Red Bed Head.

I had other ideas for this one, but some other people had taken them, so I came up with this. These challenge topics really are a challenge. It's tough coming up with something every week.

Illustration Friday - Superhero sketch

This is the preliminary sketch to Superbaby. There are some parts of it that I like better than the finished piece so I decided to post it.

Illustration Friday - Superhero

Superbaby! His bib is his cape. He throws toys at the bad guys when they least expect it. His screams can pierce the eardrums of anyone within 10 yards. He has a vice grip that can pull hair, jewelry, glasses and noses causing bodily harm and monetary damage. Look out! It's Superbaby!

The next post is the preliminary sketch to this. I tried to put them both in one post, but the text and pictures went all over the place so I decided to separate them.

Illustration Friday - 80s

I was a fan of Boy George and Madonna in the 80s, so I chose these two to represent the era for me. I don't know how to use Photoshop very well, but if I did, I would have merged these two onto one page and added little 80s popular items like leg warmers and skinny neckties. Oh, well. I'll have to figure it out later.

Simone Simon

This is a portrait of Simone Simon. She was a French actress who passed away in recent years.
I was struggling with caricatures and decided to do a portrait for a change which is what I like to do anyway.

Illustration Friday - Buzz

This is open to interpretation. It could be a buzzing in your ears because someone is talking about you or a buzz of gossip going around.
